PFN is excited to be partnering with the City of Peterborough to participate in the global City Nature Challenge competition to record nature sightings within communities. From Friday, April 28-May 1, people are encouraged to report all their nature sightings on iNaturalist. On Saturday an in-person Bio-Blitz will be held in Jackson Park with naturalists searching for as many species as they can find. Teams will focus on a specific theme such as birds, plants, insects, trees and shrubs or life in the creek. Participating in a bio-blitz is a great way to learn while contributing to citizen science. A good inventory of the biodiversity of the park can be useful in protecting it from encroachment. In addition, experienced naturalist are leading short hikes throughout the day to share their enthusiasm about nature to citizens who come to learn. These walks start at 9, 10, 11, 1, and 2:00.
