Returning Waterfowl on the Otonabee

Sunday, March 1, 2020, 1:00 p.m. With the lengthening days in March and hours of sunlight the spring migration is underway.  This afternoon trip will visit various locations along the Otonabee River to discover the returning waterfowl.  It is anticipated there will be Common Goldeneyes and Bufflehead doing their spring courtship rituals.  Common Merganser, with the males in their bright spring plumage, will also be present.  Other species are also possible. Hooters of Amherst Island, Saturday, March 7, 2020          This is the PFN’s bi-annual outing to Amherst Island in the eastern end of Lake Ontario near Kingston.  We will cross to the island on the ferry and visit various locations to look for wintering owls and the other hawks and eagles which will also be present.  The trip will leave from Peterborough at 7:00 a.m. and take the 9:30 a.m. ferry to Amherst Island.  Matthew Tobey and Brian Wales are the…

Mergansers and Friends on Rice Lake, Sunday, March 29, 2020 10 a.m. in Coffee Time at Lansdowne (Hwy 7) and Old Keene Road This trip to look for spring migrants, primarily waterfowl will visit various access points on the north shore of Rice Lake between Keene and Hastings.
